Hello,

To help build a strong and welcoming community the (new) Ruby Quiz
[1] has adopted a code of conduct [2].

Happy ruby quiz time. Be a mensch. Cheers. Prost.

That's the whole code? Three words?

I hope you'll forgive me for saying so, but that's not a code of conduct, that's an aspiration. Who decides when someone is not being "a mensch"? What happens to them then? What if other people disagree? These are things that need to go in a code of conduct.

Well, I like the idea of thinking about and deciding for your own, what it could mean to „be a mensch“ and then behave accordingly … a quite philosophical or maybe grownup approach to a code of conduct: think (before you act)?!

Actually, so do I. But isn't this exactly what we do _without_ a code of conduct? Decide on our own what appropriate behaviour is? Encouraging us to do this is good! But not a code of conduct.

If two sets of people come to conflicting ideas of what it means to be a mensch, there needs to be a semi-formal process for adjudicating that and ruling on what is or is not acceptable, or the whole thing just turns into a flame war and drives people away.

That's what a code of conduct **is**.

That's the point. For more code of conducts, see the
Choose-A-Conduct [1] org. Here's another classic:

Be Nice. Matz Is Nice So We Are Nice (MINSWAN).

A more humorous / funny one is:

How's my conducting? Call 1-800-MENSCH

Note: The page also includes a link "What's a Mensch?" [2] that
points to the wikipedia article.

Cheers. Prost.
